Catching Feature

Something in the landscape that will indicate that a Target has been missed. e.g. walking downhill could indicate that a summit has been missed, reaching a forest edge which you know lies beyond the intended Target (like a path junction).

Catching Features should be identified before embarking on each leg of the walk.
